The Washington Economic Justice Alliance is working in partnership with state agencies to understand the cumulative impact of H.R. 1 – the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” – on Washingtonians.
At a recent meeting of the Legislative-Executive WorkFirst & Poverty Reduction Oversight Task Force, representatives from the Department of Social & Health Services, Health Care Authority, Health Benefits Exchange, and State Board of Community & Technical Colleges discuss how the bill will affect the health and well-being of Washingtonians, including changes to food assistance, health insurance, higher education and Washington’s economy.
Our Executive Director, Dr. Lori Pfingst, spoke about the economic well-being of our communities and the importance of taking good care of each other during a challenging time. “No matter who you are or where you live in Washington state, we are all in this together.”
Watch the full presentation and discussion with state leaders. Explore a PDF version of the Alliance’s analysis of H.R.1, and its potential impacts in the Evergreen State here. Analysis is based on the bill signed into law on July 4th, 2025. We regularly update our analysis as we receive more information from our partners.
We are grateful to Amy Martinez, Jonathan Hemphill, Carla Reyes, Jason McGill, Sarah Peterson, Shirley Prasad and Jennifer Dellinger for their partnership and expertise!
The WA Economic Justice Alliance is tracking the impact that 2025 losses of state and federal funding are having on our community partners. If your organization has been impacted, please share with us here.
