Washington Economic Justice Alliance
Information about poverty in WA, the need for the plan.
Let’s work together to create a Washington where everyone can thrive.
The WA Economic Justice Alliance is implementing 8 Strategies to Dismantle Poverty.
In 2021, Washington State’s Governor Inslee adopted the 10-Year Plan to Dismantle Poverty and directed the members of the WA Economic Justice Alliance (who authored the plan) to lead its implementation. The plan’s foundation is the 8 Strategies, which serve as our goalposts as we work across the state to implement the plan.
Understand structural racism, historical trauma and inequality, and undo their legacy in policies, programs and practices.
Prioritize the urgent needs of people experiencing homelessness, hunger, violence, substance use disorder or behavioral illness.
Make equal space in decision-making for people and communities most affected by poverty and inequality.
Build an integrated human service care system that addresses the holistic needs of Washingtonians.
Target equitable income growth, education opportunities and wealth-building among people with low incomes.
Decriminalize poverty and reduce reliance on the child welfare, juvenile justice and criminal justice systems.
Invest in social and economic conditions to promote the intergenerational well-being of children, adults and seniors.
Ensure a just and equitable transition to the future of work.
